The 2021 Jeep Wrangler has long been the off-roading vehicle of choice for drivers serious about taking the roads less traveled. But for 2021, it has a new competitor. Ford has brought back its signature Bronco nameplate and brought a rich off-roading history to the new 2021 Ford Bronco.
With so much history of off-roading excellence between these two vehicles, drivers might have a hard time deciding which will provide the most capability.
Wrangler vs Bronco - Design
For decades, there was no vehicle like the Jeep Wrangler. It has the legendary Jeep look that draws attention to itself simply with its design. With the ability to remove the doors and roof, the Wrangler is easily transformed from one type of vehicle to another entirely.
Ford challenges everything about the Wrangler with the 2021 Bronco. Like the Wrangler, it can be designed with two or four doors, and the body panels can be removed.
Wrangler vs Bronco - Performance
The standard engine on all models of the 2021 Jeep Wrangler is a 3.6-litre Pentastar VVT V6 with engine stop/start technology. It offers 285 horsepower, 260 lb-ft of torque, and 907 kg max towing capability. The most powerful engine, a 3.0-litre EcoDiesel V6, is available on all four-door models, and it produces 260-hp, 442 lb-ft of torque, and 1,588 kg towing capability. There are two other engine options as well.
The 2021 Ford Bronco is built with a turbocharged 2.3-litre inline-four that delivers 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque and can tow up to 1,587 kg. The only other option for the Bronco is a twin-turbo 2.7-litre V6 that delivers 310 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque but the same towing capability.
Wrangler vs Bronco - Models and Pricing
Starting at $35,687, the 2021 Jeep Wrangler is available in 16 model configurations--more than enough to meet the needs of drivers in Calgary. The base two-door Sport model includes a Uconnect 3 multimedia centre with 5-inch touchscreen, 17-inch wheels, and back-up camera.
Ford designed six Bronco models around the types of adventures that drivers wish to tackle: Base, Big Bend, Black Diamond, Badlands, Outer Banks, and WildTrak. Starting at $40,499, the Bronco comes outfitted with an 8-inch touchscreen, Ford's latest Sync 4 multimedia system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
